DEM Student Internship Opportunity

The DEM Student Internship Program provides students with a unique opportunity to apply classroom skills and theory to real life work situations. This hands-on program is designed to strengthen fundamental emergency management concepts and develop the confidence and skills of the next generation to prepare them for future employment opportunities.

Responsibilities

Work with a Northern or Southern Nevada Site Supervisor to assist the Division of Emergency Management / Homeland Security in coordinating the prevention, protection, mitigation, response and recovery programs and resources through partnerships to build resilient communities for Nevada’s residents and visitors.

  • Attend meetings with internal and external partners
  • Assist with development and execution of Preparedness, Planning, Logistics, Grants and Mitigation, Response and Recovery Programs
  • Assist with development and execution of Training and Exercises
  • Event and outreach planning support
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • This position is unpaid and requires the minimum hours needed for program of study credit  
  • High school or college student (students under 18 need parental consent on application)   
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills  
  • Ability to manage multiple projects to the successful completion   
  • Professional appearance and demeanor   
  • Must be a US citizen or legally authorized to work in the US
